Michael Steele calls Rush Limbaugh racist after a typical Limbaugh tirade on one of his recent shows. The newly nominee of Secretary of Labor, Tom Perez, was the target of Limbaugh’s venomous speech.

The Mar. 18, 2013 edition of The Rush Limbaugh Show  is notable due to Rush’s allegation that Tom Perez, President Obama’s Secretary of Labor nominee, is comparable to the “grand eagle of the Ku Klux Klan” and late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. These comments came amidst a rant unleashed by Limbaugh that blames Perez for “refusing to prosecute The New Black Panthers for voter intimidation.”

One might expect that liberals would cringe when hearing Perez, a man with an impeccable record of public service, denigrated without cause, but it turns out that Perez’s staunchest defender is a black conservative.

Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele appeared puzzled by Limbaugh’s irresponsible remarks according to Huff Post . “I just don’t see a basis for, you know, Chavez?” Steele revealed during an interview. “How did we jump to that? Oh, (was it) because he’s Hispanic? Oh, got it, got it, alright. Again, you can’t take that seriously, and that’s what the American people are tired of, quite frankly.”

When Michael Steel calls Rush Limbaugh racist, one Republican calling out another, it is worth noting.

Steele worked with Perez in Maryland when he served as lieutenant governor and Perez was a member of the Montgomery County Council. He praised Perez’s work as secretary of the State’s Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation, and said he has “done an incredible job” as head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.

A Face the Nation report, addressed the lack of prosecution of the New Black Panthers (NBP.) Not only did the Bush administration drop the charges against the NBP; a commission appointed to investigate an alleged voter intimidation incident found there was no direct evidence that the NBP activists actually intimidated anybody, or stopped them from voting.

Once again, Rush’s racism and ignorance revealed itself, but this time a member of his own party called him on it.

Michael Steel calls Rush Limbaugh racist. Wouldn’t it be great if Limbaugh listened?
